Music

My name is Koyel. I'm a Bengali musician, storyteller, and ethnomusicophile. I turn to folk music to make sense of the world, expressing the many layers of the human experience.

I sing & write in Spanish and Bengali, play the Dotara (Bengal), and the Jarana (Mexico)

My music belongs to the genre I call Mystical Folk;

an intimate enquiry into the idea of the 'Soul' shaped by yogic philosophy and metaphors of Nature.

When words fail, music becomes my voice—a release through the poetry and melodies of the people.

Debut EP

Donde La Tierra Canta

যেখানে মা গান গায়

In the summer of 2024, a spontaneous trip to Veracruz, Mexico drew me into the world of Son Jarocho Music, which revealed surprising parallels with my roots in Bengal. Both traditions share the imprint of colonial legacies and a poetic use of nature as metaphor, connecting land, life, and spirit. This experience inspired Donde la Tierra Canta / যেখানে মা গান গায় (Where the Earth Sings)—my debut EP, performed in Spanish and Bengali, weaving Son Jarocho verses with Bengal’s spiritual folk poetry.

The EP, done in collaboration with folk musicians from Mexico, bridges two distant yet profoundly connected cultures.

Releasing January 2026.
